The Beauty of Nature

I thought I would share with you a few of my favourite photos in which I took along my travels in BC. I have begun to gather an appreciation for photography and the beauty that evolves around it. I now see the world in a different view, noticing the natural beauties of the everyday environment in which so easily goes unnoticed. I read somewhere online that when asked "What would you take with you if you could only grab one item from your house as it was burning down to the ground?" and the most common answer was photos or a photo album. Photos are the one true documentation in which we can pass down throughout our generations and the one way in which we can share our experiences throughout our lives with others around us. Weddings, picnics, social gatherings, tourism! You will ALWAYS see someone with a camera taking pictures of the most memorable moments in their life.

Here are some of my beginnings of my photobook of life:

Taken at the base of the 'Stawamus Chief' in Squamish, British Columbia. There are 3 peaks in which to hike to... Peak #1 is where most "unfit" people hike to, and they sometimes make it to peak #2 or peak #3. I like to climb up to peak #3 (about a 2.5-3 hour hike for the athletic) and then hike down to peak #2 and then peak #1 :D

Taken at summit of Peak #3. The view overlooks the town of Squamish, which is a small town located inbetween Vancouver and Whistler, BC. The views from up there are surreal and just absolute breathtaking. It's an amazing feeling once your up at the top to look at the nature that surrounds you.

Taken at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. This was slightly terrifying but also very fun! Apparently in 1999, a woman dropped her 18-month-old, disabled child off the bridge...she claimed she stumbled accidentally and the child slipped from her grasp. The child was not seriously injured. CRAZY!!!

Both photos above were taken at a small river/lake which runs off of Grouse Mountain. As you can see the waters were very crystal clear and many came here to go swimming as well as jump off the cliffs into the water!!

Wonders of Life

14-04-13

I am sure many of you have heard of the BBC documentary series "Planet Earth" which is narrated by David Attenborough. If you haven't seen it, then view the trailer here:

Planet Earth is one of the most amazing and satisfying documentaries depicting very intriguing animals and places we have here on Earth. The imagery & scenes that the BBC photography team are capable of capturing is just surreal. You will question to yourself "Why on Earth have I not visited these places before?" ... and I guarantee it will make you think about travelling. There is so much beauty out there in this world that we forget or even fail to realize exists.

Anyways... moving on. There is this guy a theoretical physicist by the name of 'Brian Cox'. This guy is... AMAZING... he IS the next David Attenborough, and those are mighty big shoes to fill. The way Brian is able to breakdown complex algorithms and theories into the most simple explanation is just beyond incredible. His keen interest for the love of physics, how the Earth works & the space-time that surrounds us is what makes his documentaries so enjoyable to watch. Three particular documentaries which I have found just fascinating : Wonders of the Solar System, Wonders of the Universe & Wonders of Life

Watch a short clip from 'Wonders of the Universe' where Brian explains what happens if you were to encounter a black hole in outer space:

If you are interested in space & the cosmos I HIGHLY recommend you check those two out. I swear you will find yourself watching episode after episode. Each episode is about an hour long - Wonders of the Solar System has 5 episodes where as Wonders of the Universe has 4. I introduce these series to all my friends and they fall in love with them. Even if you're not naturally able to comprehend theoretical physics at an advanced level, these documentaries still make sense and are educational. Primarily due to his ability to "dumb it down" it really allows for a wider audience to stay engaged in the full 60 minutes of each episode.

NOW... Wonders of Life. If you enjoyed Planet Earth then you will love 'Wonders of Life'. It is very similar however more interactive. It goes through more of the theories of life which include the law of thermodynamics, natural selection, evolution, genome sequencing and how all of this came about through natural processes.

Watch the trailer here:

I HOPE that you find these documentaries entertaining, insightful and educational as much as I did. Anyways... I am off to watch another episode of Wonders of Life

:D
